A Request for Prayer

Dear Friends of Adoration Christian Centre:

Due to a situation that is outside of our control, it appears that Adoration is going to have to find a different location for the upcoming school year which begins in October.

The temporary site that we were using was owned by Pastor Charles of the Presbyterian Missino to Haiti. Because of a falling out with the church, Pastor Charles has withdrawn his permission to use the property. At this point Randy is hopeful that all the buildings and materials will be recovered. The news of this development is a great disappointment, as many relationships have been severed, and for those who worked so hard to erect the offices, residences, classrooms, playground, bathrooms, kitchen and the tent.

However, the teachers and staff have been a source of encouragement for Randy and Karen and Kim! They are confident in the Lord's goodness, and that even in this, the LORD has a plan. He has always come through for us, and He will again.

We ask for your prayers in resolving this situation, either through a change of heart for Pastor Charles, or that God may lead us to another property where everything can be re-installed. We stand with the decision the Prsbyterian Mission to Haiti board had to make regarding Pastor Charles Amicy, and with the decision of the overseeing Presbytery of the PCA. We continue to work with Pastor Ben Hopp, OPC missionary, and Pastor Octavius Delfis, PCA Pastor. The work of the church will continue, as we prayerfully and humbly move forward. Sometimes it seems like life in Haiti is one crisis after another, and it is true, the Devil is hard at work! On the other hand, our work has been so greatly blessed, and many people have been able to witness the love and power of our God, that we stand in awe of His works.

As much as possible we will try to keep our supports up to date on the developments. Thank you for your continued concern, support and prayer.

On January 12, 2010, Jim Kamstra and I were visiting the Adoration Christian Centre project on behalf of the CDIA board when we experienced the Haiti earthquake first hand. We are still very mindful of His Protection given to us on that very difficult day. The need to go back and put some closure to our traumatic experience continued to grow stronger over the past few months. On June 17, Jim and I returned back to Haiti for a 5 days visit. What a blessing this was! We thank the board for giving their support for this visit and a generous supporter for providing us travelling vouchers.

CDIA and Word & Deed - Merger Announcement

Word & Deed Ministries

announce their intent to Merge 

At the initiative of Coram Deo International Aid (CDIA) and with thanksgiving to the Lord, the respective boards of CDIA and Word & Deed Ministries announce our intent to merge subject to approval by the CDIA membership. Given the similarity of our mission and mandate, the overlap of our respective supporters, the need of CDIA for administrative services given her growth over the past few years and the 16 years of experience Word & Deed has to date, the intent to merge is believed to reflect both practical wisdom and an encouraging degree of unity among our supporting churches and denominations as we together, in a diaconal capacity, strive to extend the Kingdom of God in the developing world

Our intent to merge has resulted from several meetings between ad-hoc committees representing each board over the past year and the hope is that final approval for the merger will be given by each board and their respective memberships by the end of 2010 with CDIA fully merged into Word & Deed Ministries by the end of 2011. CDIA would cease to exist as a separate charity and continue on as the Adoration Project Team overseeing Adoration Christian Centre in Haiti as part of Word & Deed Ministries. Adoration Christian Centre, will continue to be managed by our field workers, Randy & Karen Lodder and Kim Gringhuis.

Both boards wish to emphasize that the merger will not reduce the involvement of current CDIA volunteers and supporters. Both organizations have developed a culture of enthusiastic involvement and support and the success of the merger depends on this continuing under the indispensable blessing of the Lord. May we together be instruments in His hands to the salvation of sinners and the strengthening of His church both in Haiti and in the many other countries Word & Deed has the privilege of working.

June 2010 Update

Summer is going to be here very soon. For us here in Canada that means schools will soon be out and our children will have a few months off. In Haiti, things will be different this year. Due to the interruption of school caused by the earthquake on January 12, the government has ruled that all schools will run through the summer until the end of August. This will allow schools, at least those which are open, to finish the curriculum for this current year the best they can. Unfortunately, schools in Haiti are not allowed to be inside due to concern for building structure safety. Therefore, all classes are held outside under tents, tarps or shade trees. One can understand that the quality of education is a real concern.

ADORATION CHRISTIAN CENTRE - REOPENS

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI

With praise and thanksgiving to God, CDIA announces the re-opening of ADORATION CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, which took place this past Monday, May 31st. The report from the field:

“Adoration was blessed to open its doors once again to 120 students, 10 teachers, two cooks and one very excited director. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! It was such a blessing to hear children’s voices talking, singing, laughing and reciting on the property - definitely beats the sounds of hammers and drills! Makes all the work seem worth it and makes us all very thankful for what people in Canada have done for Adoration - given financially, remembered us in prayer, sacrificed time at work and with family to come and help. We know that so much was lost in the earthquake and that so much devastation has taken place, but at the same time a lot has been gained. God is good.”

CDIA thanks all who contributed to our rebuilding effort in any way and would especially like to thank Word and Deed and CRWRF for their support of our post-earthquake work.
